WSU Payment Plan
The Washington State University Payment Plan (UPP) allows students to make 4 equal payments throughout the course of a semester. This helps with financial planning and budgeting by spreading out costs over the semester, rather than one lump sum. The UPP includes tuition, mandatory fees, housing and dining, and other eligible charges excluding anticipated financial aid. Financial aid is defined as any estimated or actual aid, third party payments, scholarship, and waivers. Students can select to enroll in the UPP for Fall and Spring semesters only. A $50.00 non-refundable enrollment fee will be added to the first payment. Below is a list of frequently asked questions and upcoming enrollment dates.

WSU University Payment Plan FAQ
Who is eligible to enroll?
Enrolled students who have WSU tuition and fees totaling at least $500.00 outstanding on their account after financial aid is awarded can enroll in the plan. Exceptions to this are students enrolled in a program that have unique payment due dates such as Study Abroad, OMBA and OEMBA.
When can I enroll?
Enrollment for fall and spring opens when tuition and fees post to the student account. Tuition and fees most generally start posting in late July for fall and early December for spring. Enrollment ends at midnight the day before classes begin.
Do I have to enroll each semester?
Enrollment is required each semester you wish to participate.
Is there an enrollment fee?
There is a $50.00 nonrefundable enrollment fee per semester due at signup.
Is enrollment required?
No, enrollment in the UPP is optional.
If I don’t enroll in the UPP, when is my account due?
If you decide not to opt into the UPP, all charges on your account will be due the first day of the semester. This includes tuition, fees, and housing charges. Please reference our late payment fee policy.
How do I enroll?
If you would like to include only tuition, mandatory fees, special course fees, and room and board charges, please choose the “Tuition, Fees, Room and Board” plan. If you would like to include those charges as well as others such as the Sports Pass, Yearbook, Orientation Fees, etc, please choose the “All Charges Excluding Fines” plan.
What charges are eligible to be included in the UPP?
If you have granted Title IV permissions, all charges posted to your account within that semester can be included in the plan. Exceptions include fines and Health and Wellness charges. If you have not granted Title IV permissions, only tuition, mandatory fees, special course fees and housing and dining charges can be included. Charges from previous terms cannot be included.
Why do I have to grant Title IV permissions to have all charges included?
If you have any financial aid that is applied after you’ve opted into the UPP, that aid will apply to your UPP charge. Due to Federal regulations, permission is needed to apply aid to any charges other than tuition, mandatory fees, special course fees and housing and dining charges. Therefore Title IV permissions are required if you want charges such as the Sport pass to be included.
How do I grant Title IV permissions?
To grant Title IV permissions complete the following steps.
- Log into myWSU.
- Go to Student Center.
- Under the Finances section, locate the drop down menu “other financial…”
- Select “View Student Permissions.” Click GO.
- Select the Permission Form. Click Next.
- Read the Permission Form Agreement. Mark “Yes, I have read the agreement.” Click Submit.
- Confirm that you received an email stating the permission form has been accepted.
Remember this must be done if you want to include non-mandatory charges such as the Sports Pass. You can also agree to Title IV in the enrollment process
What charges are not eligible to be included in the UPP?
The following are examples of charges not eligible for the UPP:
- Parking Tickets
- Library Fines
- Health and Wellness charges
- RDA add
- Past due charges from a previous semester
How can I set up a payment plan for my housing charges only?
Housing only payment plans are no longer available. To enter only a certain amount into the UPP, you have to bring the account balance down to that amount by making a payment first. For example, if your account balance totals $7,000.00 of which $4,000.00 is housing and dining charges, you will need to pay $3,000.00 before enrolling in the UPP.
What are my payment dates if I’m living in a university single student apartment with a contract for 11 months?
The payment dates will be the same as listed. The fall semester (August – December) and spring semester (January – June) charges will be made in four payments rather than monthly. You will still make a prepayment equal to first month’s rent to secure your apartment which will reduce the amount to be financed through the payment plan in the fall.
What happens if I miss a payment deadline?
Every time you miss a payment, there will be a 6% late payment fee assessed to your account on all past due charges. The late payment fee is nonrefundable and missing payments could affect your ability to enroll in a future UPP. A hold will also be placed on your account that will affect services offered by Washington State University. If the plan is not paid in full by the final due date, you will also be removed from any classes you have enrolled in for future terms.
How will financial aid factor into my payments?
If WSU financial aid is awarded or pending before you enroll into the payment plan, the amount eligible for the plan will be reduced by that dollar amount. If financial aid is awarded after you have enrolled, it will apply to your outstanding payment plan charges. You will be required to make payment on the due dates to avoid late fees even if you are aware of financial aid that is being awarded late.
Once I opt into the UPP, can I opt out during that same semester?
No, once you opt into the plan, you are required to stay in for the semester. However, you can pay the account off early if you’d like.
